A playful contemplation around the idea of the emotional weight one carries,deforming yet often concealed from the outside observation.We may find ourselves at odds of how we carry our strange, heavy baggage. But rarely can we leave it behind or translate it into a lighter shape. What stays is anawkward outline, a quiet turn or an over-expressive dance. VOLUME is a gesture to that impact of life itself. Full and possible, with the inevitable push and pull of something invisible.

This series explores the imagined physical manifestation of holding your space through the lived experience. A form that is shaped, then added material as marking points ‘I once was here’ to overcome and remain and changed. A series that I started 2020 through the emotional challenge for caring for my late mother.

These hand-built vessels carry the weight of their accumulated presence. Each work speaks the memorial language of the body. The forms are build then enduring the impact, through scratching, slapping, leaving marks that the clay records.
