ASTRID SALOMON aka BASTARD CERAMICS.

There are different series I approach with my ceramic practice, always exploring a new angle like an ongoing process. I like to create by slowly shaping around an emotion, character or story. Sometimes it can be just a feeling that persists and then manifests into the material, guiding me with depth and range, connecting to the various stages of the human condition. Everything is hand-built, either by coiling or slab building. Always encouraging the unique voice of a piece. I approach my work in a conversation with the material, searching for the contradictions of our nature, the raw and the refined, the line and the curve, the taking up space, the quiet appearing of a manifestation.

“For me, my pieces are full of character, I like to allow each one’s individual expression. ”

With a deep passion for ceramics, my background in visual Arts has a big influence on my current practice, which I started by setting up my own studio in 2020, developing glazes and firing all of my work in my kiln.
