There are different series I approach with my ceramic practice, always exploring a new angle as I like to create by slowly shaping around an emotion, character or story. Sometimes it can be just a feeling that persists and then manifests into the material, guiding me with depth and range, connecting to the various stages of the human condition. Everything is hand-built, either by coiling or slab building. Always encouraging the unique voice of a piece. I approach my work in a conversation with the material, searching for the contradictions , the raw and the refined, the line and the curve, the taking up space, the quiet appearing of a manifestation.
“Astrid Salomon hand-builds ceramic vessels and sculptures through an intuitive dialogue with clay, exploring the contradictions inherent in human nature. Her work is strong yet resting in a quiet presence, emerging from the tension between control and surrender, where each piece asserts itself quietly yet unmistakably.”
